Information

V’Audio was founded in 1992, at the end of the ‘Cold War’, as I had been working since the early 60’s as an engineer at British Aerospace in the Guided Missiles Division, mainly working on computer simulations in the days when you walked into the computer which used valves! As a result my interest in computers is minimal, and I only use them when I have to, hence the creation of this web-site, having lost one that cost thousands some years ago, and was lost!

With the end of the cold war, I was no longer required, and was able to take early retirement, at an age when I had to find something to occupy myself. Having for many years been an unofficial supplier of hi-fi to employees at BAE, it seemed logical to set up a hi-fi business. I didn’t want to be shut in a shop all day, so decided to set up a ‘consultancy’, which also gave me the option of visiting customers all over the country. Indeed, I still have old customers, who are now coming back to me to upgrade the old equipment I sold them 10 to 20 years ago, and yes it is still working.
Initially of course, it was just hi-fi, but as the years went by home cinema started, initially using the big, heavy 3 lens projectors you can still see in some pubs. They gave a good picture, but were a pain to set up – both physically and electronically. Due to their size and expense not many could accommodate them, but then the DLP single chip came in and although still quite expensive, they were so much easier to install. The LCD projectors were more for business presentations, so D-ILA from JVC was the only real competitor to DLP for cinema use. In the last couple of years however, both D-ILA and LCD have improved dramatically, with the LCD & LED in particular now giving excellent performance in HD, at the lower, budget end of the scale. DLP still holds the ultimate quality, and is the technology used for digital cinema projection in cinemas, though LED projectors from manufacturers such as SIM2 solve the problem of bulbs.

For most people however, the reduction in price of the Plasma /LCD/LED TVs has seen a reduction in interest in the projector market, but for real Home Cinema nothing beats the experience of a proper Projector/Screen setup.
