Information

The house was built in 1861 when the local doctor was to build ‘a good and substantial home’ with the intention of using it as a hydropathical centre and to ‘erect baths and other buildings required for such an establishment’. The emphasis was on light spacious rooms, fresh air and sea views. All the elements considered necessary by wealthy Victorians conducive to good health. Hence: Well Park. The house consisted of an elegant dining room, delightful sitting room, butler’s pantry, scullery, four bedrooms, a bathroom and maids quarters. Various outbuildings included gardeners workshop, conservatory, wine store, coal and wood stores and above, a large games room.
In the early 1900’s a substantial wing was added to include a stylish, beautifully proportioned Edwardian drawing room, two extremely large bedrooms and a superb bathroom.
The elegant house known now as Wellpark provides comfortable accommodation in large stylish rooms, which retain many original features, with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Public rooms are very spacious and take in the magnificent sea views from huge windows making the most of this truly wonderful, tranquil location.
