Information

Bishopton Grove House is a privately owned Guest House and has been run by Susi & John Wimpress for the past 28 years.

The house dates from around 1800 and is grade 2 listed. During the early 19th century it operated as a school and one of its pupils was the future Dean Henry Liddell of Oxford, father of Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

There is off-road parking and the house is situated about 3/4 mile from the centre of the ancient market town and Cathedral City of Ripon which has a good variety of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. It is just 3 miles from the outstanding National Trust owned site of the ruins of Fountains Abbey (founded 1132), set in the beautiful grounds of Studley Royal and less than a mile to the ancient Cathedral (founded 672). Newby Hall, Ripon Racecourse, Lightwater Valley and Brimham Rocks (NT) are all within 15 minutes drive. In addition, Ripon provides easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks and to the City of York and is only 5 miles from the A1 trunk road.
