MoT Testing, the goal posts have moved.
From the 20th of March 2013 there will be more testable items in the MOT test. The list below will become testable items which will have to be working if fitted to your car.The list applies to Class 4,5 & 7 vehicles. (class 4 being the family car).

Headlight leveling and cleaning devises when fitted to HID (high intensity discharge) or LED (light emitting diode) headlights.
Main headlight beam ‘tell-tale’ lamp.
Battery ((including batteries for hybrid vehicles) batteries to be secure and not leaking)).
Electrical wiring and connectors
Trailer electrical sockets, security and damage.
Operation of 13 pin trailer electrical sockets.
Operation of the steering lock
Electronic power steeing malfunction indicator lamp.
Electronic parking brake control and malfuntion indicator lamp.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) components, including the switch (if fitted) and malfuntion indicator lamp.
Brake fluid warning lamp illuminated or inoperative.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).
SRS (supplimenty restraint systems) components including airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, seat belt load limiters and SRS malfuntion indicator lamp.
Engine mountings.
Speedometer.
Indirect vision devises ie cameras (where they replace obligatory mirrors).
From 16th February 2014, diesel vehicles manufactured with catalysts and particulate filters will have to have them fitted to pass.
