Information

Sports Performance Services Ltd was founded in 1991 to
provide practical sports massage courses and workshops. From the outset,
SPS’s aim has been properly to define ‘Sports Massage and Massage in a Sports
Environment’ which includes the use of advanced soft tissue techniques. The
courses, written by Viv Lancey, Chartered Physiotherapist (Director), have been
designed to provide course participants with the necessary underpinning
knowledge, training, education, practical skills and work experience to
establish themselves as autonomous Sports Massage & Soft Tissue
Practitioners.

Viv was appointed as expert consultant in sports
massage for SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Sport and Active
Leisure, and was the lead author of the national occupational standards for
sports massage, which subsequently were accepted as the national standards for
all areas of massage in the UK by Skills for Health. Viv worked
as part of a sports massage expert sub-group and a wider steering group to
update the national occupational standards for sports therapy which inform
employment practice and education in the sector across the UK.

SPS Ltd has been at the forefront of sports massage
education since its founding in 1991. Over the last 21 years, the courses
have been developed and improved, and SPS, in partnership with Teesside
University, was the first provider to offer stand-alone sports massage
education programmes in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications
(FHEQ). SPS Ltd has for the academic year commencing September 2013
further advanced its education programmes in partnership with Cardiff
Metropolitan University (UWIC) in providing a Continuing Education Award in
Sports Massage (CEASM) and a Continuing Education Award in Advanced Soft Tissue
Practice (CEAASTP). These qualifications can be studied as ‘stand-alone’
or as part of the degree programme Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation &
Massage (SCR&M). Succesful completion of either award ‘stand-alone’
provides access to the degree programme part-time and is studied at levels 4, 5
& 6 Higher Education. SPS Ltd is committed to providing the highest
quality of educational programmes and offering students the opportunity to
follow a structured educational pathway.

The CEAASTP / CEASM Massage education programme is
recognised for the Government Part Time Tuition Fee Loan. To view the
criteria and access an application form (from August 2012) click

Funding recognition has inspired us to continue to
develop education modules that will provide practitioners with a route to
achieving an award of a Foundation Degree / Degree in sports & soft tissue
massage.

The SPS partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan
University (UWIC) has seen the SPS Sports Massage Education programmes
incorporated into the BSc Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation & Massage
Degree Programme and will over the next few years see the development of these
awards accross the UK.
