Dodsworth Hall was built in 1850 by John Dodsworth as a school for the local community. Having had a recent chequered history, sale was approved by the parish and bought in 2006 to convert into a children’s day nursery. The inside has been totally refurbished with a new floor put into the existing building and an extension at the back. The nursery has been OFSTED inspected and can accommodate 34 children. There are 3 main rooms; upstairs, a baby unit for 0–2 years and downstairs, a toddler unit with toilet facilities, changing room and access to the outside play area. Pre-school children who receive the government funding at 3 years have their own room with toilets and access to their own play area.
The nursery is predominately for the local community and already, in our short history, we have had many satisfied customers. One of our main strengths is our size, we are a small, friendly nursery providing a quality environment supported by qualified staff. The owner, Jane Corner, is a retired teacher with 30 years experience in York schools and has a second nursery in Flaxton, near Strensal, York.
